Hirotaka Koike

Biography

Hirotaka Koike is a consultant at Sustainable Urban Development Section, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), coordinating a project on urban COVID-19 recovery and Asia-Pacific Mayors Academy. Prior to this, he was a researcher at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and coordinated initiatives of the Voluntary Local Reviews and the VLR-Lab. He also advises Japan Youth Platform for Sustainability (JYPS). He served at the UN Major Group for Children and Youth, one of official constituencies as the Organising Partner for HLPF and Global Focal Point for Habitat III among other roles. He holds the MSc in Development Studies (Lund University). He has seven years of global policy processes and local engagement around sustainability and resilience, especially through the lens of governance, follow-up and review, environmental protection, and human rights
